Costume Sewing Tutorials

Tutus

These no sew / strip tutus are really easy to make.  Start by laying out your tulle on a table.  (Don't unfold it).  There are 4 layers.

Next mark off 5 inch strips and cut.

Pick up the strips by the main fold... you now have 2 long strips in your hand.  Stack those strips and cut off the fold.  Now you have 2  aprox 24" strips.

Once you have a pile of tulle strips ready, put your elastic around a chair.

Fold your strip in half evenly.  Matching the bottom raw edges.  (This helps keep the tutu looking tidy)

Loop the folded edge under the elastic.  Now draw the strip through the loop and tighten gently.

Snug the strips next to each other to make a solid waist band of tulle.  Continue around until the elastic is relatively full.

Check your directions for color combos and strip length.  The younger kids tutus are shorter than the older kids, so the strip length will be different.

Lace Cap Sleeves

Lace should be 18" long.  Fold in half and cut a gradual curve.

Run a gathering stitch along the edge with the curve.

Adjust gathers to fit the strap on the undershirt.
